For philanthropy, the year 2017 has brought a number of issues to the forefront: tax reform has moved to center stage on Capitol Hill; proposals for massive government budget cuts have turned eyes towards philanthropy to fill the gap; and recent incidents like Charlottesville, Va. and the Texas flooding have reminded the sector once again that communities need philanthropy’s engagement now more than ever before. In the final Council Member Update for 2017, Council on Foundations president and CEO Vikki Spruill will discuss the year’s landscape, the challenges and opportunities seen by philanthropy and the initiatives the Council has on the horizon to amplify and strengthen the work of the sector. She will be joined on the call by senior vice president for government relations, Hadar Susskind, who will speak to the Council’s efforts to advocate on behalf of the sector, as he provides a policy update around the various tax reform efforts underway.
